Master Builders House of The Year 2024
Sanctuary Central, Wanaka

Sanctuary Central | Wānaka

Chartek supplied and charred the timber cladding for Sanctuary Central, an award-winning intergenerational home overlooking Wānaka, recognised at the 2024 Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards.

The abstract street-facing façade combines solid masonry with Japanese charred cedar and charred Siberian larch, providing privacy, texture, and a durable response to the local climate. Chartek’s charred timber adds depth and longevity to the exterior while supporting the home’s environmental performance.

Designed around a series of interconnected courtyards and gardens, Sanctuary Central integrates interior and exterior spaces with ease. The project received multiple national and regional awards, including a National Category Award, Gold Award, and Regional Supreme Winner, celebrating the strength of its architectural expression and material craftsmanship.
