-
Accoya
Accoya is a sustainably sourced timber that undergoes a non-toxic acetlylation process, making it extremely stable, durable and resistant with a 50 year warranty. The Shou Sugi Ban method results in a striking, long lasting finish with minimal maintenance.
-
Thermory Ash
Thermory Ash is a high-quality hardwood that has been thermally modified using only heat and steam with no chemicals. It enhances its durability and natural resistance to rot. Once it has been charred, it has a very unique and detailed design.
-
NZ Pine TMT
One our newest timber is Pine TMT (Thermally Modified Timber) which is a type of wood that has been heat-treated to improve its durability, strength, and resistance to weathering. When combined with the traditional Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban, the result is a beautiful, sustainable, and long-lasting wood finish
-
Charred Japanese Cedar
The dense soot layer provides the timber with long-lasting color, UV and weather protection, as well as fire resistance.
Our natural oil seals the carbon layer, reducing imperfections and helping to maintain the wood's color by preventing the soot from rubbing off.
-
Brushed Japanese Cedar
Japanese cedar is heat-treated and charred, then gently brushed to enhance its texture. It is then factory-coated with natural oils to preserve and extend the wood’s natural color. The gentle brushing creates a smooth, subtly charred look that evolves and gains character over time. In Japan, the patina that develops as the wood ages is highly prized for its unique beauty.
-
Charred Siberian Larch
Charred Siberian Larch offers a simple look that is durable, low-maintenance and fire-resistant which gives a sophisticated look for your home.
-
Brushed Siberian Larch
We run the Siberian Larch through the charring machine, then remove all the charcoal from the surface by hand, leaving the gorgeous grain exposed for an elegant textural finish.
-
Heavy Brush
This is Siberian Larch, which has been brushed twice. The charred surface produces a real contrast of light and dark grain.
Shou Sugi Ban can be done on several timbers, however, we find Japanese Cedar, Thermory Ash, Pine TMT, Accoya and Siberian Larch are the best. They have gorgeous textures and are durable. We can do a full char or a brushed look. We apply a coat of natural oil, to lock in that char.
